Overnight Visit

Please write to the guestmaster stating the dates when you would like to visit. If it is not possible for you to stay at the monastery there are two guest houses nearby for those with transport.

Support for Aruna Ratanagiri monastery is entirely obtained by alms-offerings in the form of food, money or personal skills. There is no obligatory charge to stay here. Guests can consider how they may respond to the needs of maintaining the monastery.

The Magga Bhavaka Trust as a Registered Charity is the steward body that takes responsibility for overseeing the financial concerns of this monastery. If you have any questions about the Trust or the organization of Aruna Ratanagiri please feel free to ask the guestmaster.

Guests should be aware that the community eats only before midday, in keeping with Buddhist monastic discipline. Initial visits are generally for three nights. For guests coming from overseas this can be extended.

Additional Information:

If possible (depending on whether you drive or come by public transport) please try to bring the following:

a set of working clothes
towel and toiletries
an alarm clock
waterproofs and walking boots are recommended
sleeping bag liner or bed linen (to assist in saving washing)
easily removable shoes (outdoor shoes are never worn inside the monastery)
a torch if you are coming by public transport (the road to the monastery is unlit)

In accordance with monastic training guests are asked to take responsibility for their living space, cleaning it before leaving and preparing it for its next inhabitants.
