Hilltop Newsletter: Thursday 6th June, 2024

Today, Thursday 6th, is the New Moon day for the month of June, 2024.

The next Uposatha Day is a Full Moon, and falls on Friday, 21st June, 2024.

Current residents at the monastery are: Luang Por Munindo, Ajahn Punnyo, Ajahn Mahachomgaew, Tan Samacitto, Samanera Attanyu and Anagarika Craig.

New Q&A content has been added to the dhammakatha.org website. For those who aren't aware of this site, it is a platform for Buddhist practitioners to submit written questions via email. Responses by Luang Por Munindo, in audio format, are all under 15 minutes. New material is usually posted each New Moon and Full Moon.

On the weekend of 18th and 19th May, several of us joined the gathering at Amaravati to mark Luang Por Sumedho's 90th birthday. It was estimated that at one stage there were about 150 monks and novices, 20 siladara and 1500 lay-folk. This event was followed by two days of meetings at Cittaviveka Monastery of the abbots of various branch monasteries.

By comparison, our Vesak Celebration here on Sunday 26th May was a very modest affair. However, the day didn't lack in joy and goodness. As usual, a good number of lay friends helped out on the Saturday before in preparation (see flower preparations below) and the day itself went off beautifully.

On Sunday 26th May Luang Por Munindo gave a talk titled, Many Blessings Received From Luang Por Sumedho. The talk is a tribute to the skill of Luang Por Sumedho and the privilege of having received his teachings.

On Monday 27th Tan Mahesako (see above) headed off accompanied by Tan Samahito, walking back to Amaravati. Tan Mahesako had been staying at Harnham for a few days helping Samanera Attanyu sew a robe in time for his planned Upasampada (bhikkhu Precept Ceremony) in July.

LOOKING AHEAD:

Ajahn Kaccana, who usually resides at Cittaviveka Monastery, will be with us from 12th - 20th June.

A One Day Retreat in the Thai language has been arranged at Kusala House for 7th July, led by Ajahn Mahachomkaew.

A One Day Retreat (in English) has been arranged at Kusala House for 13th July, led by Aj. Sister Khemaka.

The next Lake Work Day is planned for Saturday 6th July. Please see our calendar for future dates.

With good wishes.
